Late at night and still wide-awake, Miles Smith looks up toward the stars. Dreaming of playing in the big leagues like he's seen on TV. From the harsh trenches of the Chicago Southside, it seems an impossibility that he will ever escape from here. He knows it is only a matter of time before he becomes a casualty of another bloody crime spree. Fate is a cruel master. He sees its toll on his mother, who slaves day in and day out just to make ends meet.
