"I may be my worst enemy, but at least I've got a worthy adversary" - Shane Bordoli. Plenty of insights into alcoholism, depravity, depression and also their flip sides are on offer here. The '90s rave scene is covered as well as the Glastonbury festival during that period. The death of his parents is reviewed here in his usual crushingly honest style. Crammed with his trademark mix of humorous and the heartbreaking, Shane Bordoli's long-awaited second book is a two-part affair. A selection of poetry makes up part one, while part two is a collection of autobiographical short stories. The poetry expresses his indomitable take on life, and especially his recent extended stay in India, having left the UK in 2019 for an indefinite period. The prose centres on his crazy times of too much partying, severe alcoholism, and struggles with mental health issues that eventually led him to relocate his life and to realign his priorities. There are lots of thoughts on the India of today and travel in general. It's also a chance to see what it's like to be up close and on intimate terms with the darker side of what life can become. On the whole, it's life-affirming by dint of taking the reader on a journey with the author towards leading a life that is both well examined and well worth living. Shane is an English writer, based in India at the time of publication. Big Fall fan. His books are available in paperback and on Kindle.
