Ignacio and Yuri search vainly for truth to justify their existence in the empty streets of a Paris heatwave. Yuri's actions are keenly observed by Joana, a young nurse and the object of Ignacio's desire. One of the friends is ruled by passion; the other, by alcohol and insanity. Together, they persuade Joana to flee the hot city and join them on a journey that will take them to Venezuela. To her, the trip up the Orinoco in a cargo ship is an opportunity to remake their fractured lives.
