Reigate and Redhill

The sister towns of Reigate and Redhill, although having very different origins, grew up rapidly together in the nineteenth century after the coming of the railway in 1841. Many people travelled by train to their work in London but others found occupation in the area.

This fascinating sequence of old photographs follows the growth of the two towns after this revolution in communications took place and the towns merged and expanded. The photographs show in graphic style the schools, businesses and people both at work and in a variety of social activities.
