Mastering the Writing Skill

Regarded as a difficult skill, writing has received little attention during instruction as opposed to listening, speaking, or reading. Indeed, it is a challenging and demanding skill for non-native speakers students who have to deal with many issues at a time: content, organization, unity, coherence, purpose, audience, vocabulary, punctuation, spelling, and mechanics. "Mastering the Writing Skill: A Coursebook for High School and College Students" is a valuable support for both novice and experienced teachers who wish to teach writing. The book is characterized by the fact that it deals with writing instruction within reading and not in isolation, using vivid, authentic examples, through graded, sequential instruction, from sentence patterns to paragraph writing. It is the fruit of a long experience in teaching writing. Throughout all these years, we tried to understand the complexities of this skill and what makes it so challenging.
