Managing Sickle Cell Disease

80,000 African Americans have sickle cell disease (SCD). This study documents in social, economic and cultural terms, the daily lives of families living with this threatening illness. It looks particularly at 32 single-mother, low-income families, and how caregiving shapes their social world.
