Dal suo nido nel leccio l'usignolo lo ud

from her nest in the holm-oak tree the nightingale heard him

e guard attraverso le foglie, e si meravigli

and she looked out through the leaves, and wondered

"Nessuna rosa rossa in tutto il mio giardino " grid .

"No red rose in all my garden " he cried

e i suoi bellissimi occhi pieni di lacrime

and his beautiful eyes filled with tears
