Languages in Competition

Using both qualitative and quantitative research methods, the authors investigate the issue of language conflict situations in Nigeria resulting from the contact of Nigeria's indigenous languages with one another as well as with English and Pidgin English. The study captures patterns of language preference with the help of a survey of language attitudes and loyalties covering five Nigerian states.
