After decades of strained political relations, the US and Indian governments are pursuing a 'strategic partnership' based on numerous overlapping interests, shared values, improved economic and trade relations. The passage of the Hyde Act in 2006 has led to the negotiations of a bilateral peaceful nuclear co-operation ('123') agreement.
