Harriet Martineau, Miss J, and Ellen McKee

This book reveals the life of Miss J, who accompanied Harriet Martineau on her 1834-36 tour of America, which resulted in her book Society in America. In the 1890s, Miss J's daughter, Ellen McKee, became one of the first women to serve on the London Schools Board. She also pioneered in the provision of facilities for physically impaired children.
