From the Great Game to the Great War: India and the British Empire

India within the British Empire. How the British Empire shaped the world and how India shaped the British Empire. The time frame taken into consideration goes from Elizabeth I to the end of the First World War. The period of the Great Game and Great War. The author wants to answer to two questions: Was winning the First World War an advantage or a disadvantage for Britain? and was the British Empire good or bad? The historical context has been recreated through the biographies and vicissitudes of six characters. Six individuals who have maintained a direct and double relationship with both India and Great Britain. Kim, born from the pen of Kipling, a young Winston Churchill, the Viceroy of India Lord Curzon, the explorer Francis Younghusband, the military genius Lord Kitchener and the private soldier Khudadad Khan.An attempt to redefine the concept of the Great Game and to analyse the history of the British Empire from an uncommon point of view.
