Educating Rural Liberian Youth through Folklore

Intermittently accompanied by songs, these short stories provide perfect edutainment for both the youth and villagers as indigenous population. As important aspects of Informal Education, the narratives attribute human qualities to imagined characters such as Spider, Boogieman or Monster, Leopard including both wild and domestic lives. The stories, usually teaching moral, spiritual, and social lessons, portray adventure, love, deception, conspiracy, wisdom, truth, reconciliation, among others phenomena which are reflective of human behaviors in real life.
