Crossing Borders
Cities in present-day Germany were seen as centres of art, culture and science, while the Nordic countries, the Baltic states and Poland were on the periphery. In addition to the artists' biographies, presentations of their work and the networks they created, the book's 18 articles deal specifically with women's opportunities for education and travel.
Crossing Borders presents the latest research on female artists' opportunities to work in the art field in the nineteenth century. The contributors include 17 researchers from the eight countries studied.
