Communication Skills & Professional Development of Teachers

Communication skills can be considered as core competency for instructional school leaders. The study shows that school leaders communicate with English teachers almost on daily basis and in our context English teachers do not need to acquire any license to enter teaching profession, so many of them enter this profession as fresh graduates and untrained. In such scenario, role of school leaders become of utmost importance to professionally train and groom English teachers. School leaders motivate English teachers, guide, and mentor and coach them through coordination meetings, lesson observations, walkthroughs and notebook checking, formal and informal training sessions and meetings. Nevertheless, it is important for school leaders to not only be professionally competent and have strong communication skills, but also possess good English language skills - only then school leaders can exert large impact which is said to be 75% on English teachers' professional development and growth.
