This volume is a review of the latest progress in induced spectroscopy. It contains contributions from most major researchers in the fields of collision-induced light scattering and infrared absorption. It should be particularly valuable to spectroscopists who study dense fluids and solids. While aimed primarily at the specialist in spectroscopy, the book contains a number of review articles, with bibliographies, that are accessible to those knowing the fundamentals of infrared absorption and light scattering. These articles describe some novel applications of induced spectroscopy, such as the study of species trapped in fullerenes, and the modelling of stellar and planetary atmospheres. A decade of progress in induced spectroscopy is reviewed. Recent developments include deeper understanding of intermolecular induction mechanisms and their extension to ternary interactions; refined calculations of intermolecular potentials; more sophisticated structural and dynamical models of liquids and dense gases; and advanced lineshape theories that treat intercollisional interference and rotationally inelastic collisions. Emerging applications include induced spectra of van der Waals dimers and of species trapped in zeolites and fullerenes; and the modelling of stellar and planetary atmospheres.
