Carotid Artery Disease

Carotid artery disease causes approximately 10 to 20% of strokes, and appropriate intervention is important for secondary and primary stroke prevention. Aggressive treatment of modifiable risk factors for carotid atherosclerosis is central to stroke prevention. This book discusses the risk factors, prognosis and management of carotid artery disease. Topics include medical and behavioural intervention for carotid atherosclerotic disease; intracranial carotid artery stenosis diagnosed with CTA; carotid artery atherosclerosis in patients with inflammatory joint diseases; the impact of obesity on carotid artery disease in obese adolescents; and asymptomatic carotid disease.
