Beg Borrow Steal is a publication that celebrates the deep connection between South Asian immigrants and their culture in the United Kingdom. Through poignant interviews and heartfelt recipes, Beg Borrow Steal unveils the challenges and triumphs faced by people of colour in a predominantly white society. Each cherished recipe is dashed with authenticity – handwritten – and is presented alongside their authentic personal stories of learning to cook. The book honours the resilience and perseverance of those who endured centuries of British colonialism. It goes beyond a cookbook, offering a comprehensive directory of South Asian stores and serving as an archive of art and design reflected by the intricate patterns found on food packaging in South Asia.
