Desde su fundaci n, la Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra Am rica (ALBA) se autodefini como una propuesta latinoamericana que lucha por la autodeterminaci n y soberan a de los pueblos de la regi n, en especial, frente a lo que sus miembros denominan "pol ticas imperialistas" de los Estados Unidos. El ALBA ha promovido una alianza distinta en Am rica Latina y el Caribe y hoy, a seis a os de la firma del Acuerdo entre los Presidentes de Venezuela y Cuba para la aplicaci n del ALBA, no puede negarse que ejerce un papel importante en las decisiones y posiciones que se toman respecto a la agenda latinoamericana y caribe a. Este libro busca enriquecer los debates regionales de los temas referidos a la integraci n regional, la concertaci n y la interlocuci n pol tica y la forma en que stos se manifiestan mediante el ALBA. Los an lisis aqu presentados son un aporte para la comprensi n de las estrategias, la forma de expresarse, los nuevos escenarios de cooperaci n, y los impactos que sobre la integraci n regional latinoamericana y caribe a tiene esta iniciativa.

Latin America and the Caribbean: ALBA, a new form of regional integration?
Since its foundation, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA) has defined itself as a Latin American alternative that fights for the self-determination and sovereignty of the peoples of the region, in particular, in response to what its members term the "imperialist policies" of the United States. ALBA has promoted a different kind of Alliance in Latin America and today, six years on from the signing of the Agreement between the Presidents of Venezuela and Cuba for the application of ALBA, there is no denying that it plays an important role in the decisions and positions taken in relation to the Latin American and Caribbean agenda. This book seeks to enrich the regional debates on issues relating to regional integration, agreement and political interlocution, and the way in which these are manifested through ALBA. The analyses presented herein are a contribution towards an understanding of its strategies, its means of expression, the new scenarios of cooperation and the impact that this initiative has on Latin American and Caribbean regional integration.
