A Tale of Two Heroes

A family drives through a town advertising an Independence Day town picnic. The main character of the celebration reminds the father of someone he knew in the distant. This person turns out to be the one but is boasting himself of a false war history, to include POW status. When he finds his past will seriously damage good current reputation and damage his family he commits suicide. Yet, since his arrival many years before his contributions to the community far outweigh his false, yet the town turns on him.
