Sociology of Aging

This book seeks to analyse the bio-psycho, socio-economic and cultural aspects of aging problems in India. Based on a sociological study of 240 senior citizens of four categories retired university teachers, retired civil servants, elderly lawyers and doctors of Gorakhpur region in Uttar Pradesh, it locates their position in age, family, caste, community, profession, income group, present as well as past sources of income, securities and their inter-intra social relationship. It also explores ways and means of their sociocultural adjustments to the aging problems. The book will be useful for sociologists, researchers, policy makers and development workers.
