English summary: After 1945, German monument preservation offices cultivated the image that, as apolitical specialist authorities, they were not affected by the Nazi regime. This contemporary historical study is situated in the context of research on coming to terms with the past. It questions this self-image using the example of the monument preservation authorities in Bavaria, Thuringia and the Rhineland. The relationship to the changing German regimes and rulers is a central question: How did the monument authorities act in the central political upheavals of the 20th century? How did they place their decidedly conservative stance across the political caesuras of 1933 and 1945 in the respective political contexts? The genesis and tradition of the offices since the late 19th century are also included in the analysis. Die zeithistorische Studie, die sich im Kontext der Aufarbeitungsforschung verortet, hinterfragt dieses Selbstbild und untersucht, wie die Denkmalamter in den zentralen politischen Umbruchsituationen des 20. Jahrhunderts agierten. Wie ordneten sie ihre dezidiert konservative Haltung uber die politischen Zasuren 1933 und 1945 hinweg in die jeweiligen politischen Kontexte ein? Das Verhaltnis zu den wechselnden Regimen und Machthabern ist dabei eine zentrale Frage. Doch auch Genese und Tradition der Amter seit dem spaten 19. Jahrhundert werden in die Betrachtung einbezogen.
