Wasting Time With God

When it comes to developing a deep, trusting relationship with God, efficiency and productivity are not the answers. Rather we need to "waste" time with God, to just enjoy being with him. After all, that's how any friendship grows. But making room for God in the midst of our fast-paced lives is not an easy task. Just as time with our best friends can get squeezed out by the rush of activities, so can time with God. It may take a commitment, making some decisions and setting priorities - even when it's something we enjoy. To do this, Klaus Issler considers eight character traits and companion disciplines to develop in light of God's friendship with us: faith, humility, friendship, intentionality, divine mentoring, guidance, submission and participation. These combine to offer a model for a full-orbed Christian spirituality that will be of lasting value in our lives.
