Uric Acid

Uric acid is the end-product of the purine metabolism in human beings. Most of this substance is in the form of monosodium urate in compartments with pH 7.4, such as plasma and extracellular fluids. In this book, the authors present current research in the study of the biology, functions and disease relating to uric acid. Topics discussed include the role of uric acid in the avian species; uric acid in multiple sclerosis and neurodegenerative diseases and the role of uric acid in metabolic syndrome and in hypertension and renal failure.
