Urban Planning in Islamic Architecture

Cities have great and distinct importance in the course of history and the development of human civilization. The settlement of a large number of people in them develops special relationships between them, and leads to the emergence of social, economic and administrative institutions to organize life in them in a way that achieves security and tranquility and facilitates economic, intellectual and cultural growth. Since their inception, these cities have remained a center of prosperity for the growth of human civilizations.The cities of Basra, Kufa, Fustat, Kairouan, Baghdad, Cairo and others are among the first and most important Islamic cities that the first Muslims built for themselves. They were not populous cities at the beginning of their founding. However, these cities, whose foundation was linked to the Islamic conquest of these regions, quickly became major cities, thanks to the foundations and standards of their organized planning and the creativity of the Muslim architect in introducing the Islamic identity into their construction.
