First published between 1860-1861, "e;The Uncommercial Traveller"e; is a collection of literary sketches and reminiscences written by Charles Dickens. They represent his main contributions to the journal "e;All the Year Round"e;, which Dickens founded in 1859. Contents include: "e;His General Line Of Business"e;, "e;The Shipwreck"e;, "e;Wapping Workhouse"e;, "e;Two Views Of A Cheap Theatre"e;, "e;Poor Mercantile Jack"e;, "e;Refreshments For Travellers"e;, "e;Travelling Abroad"e;, "e;The Great Tasmania's Cargo"e;, "e;City Of London Churches"e;, "e;Shy Neighbourhoods"e;, etc. Charles John Huffam Dickens (1812-1870) was an English writer and social critic famous for having created some of the world's most well-known fictional characters. His works became unprecedentedly popular during his life, and today he is commonly regarded as the greatest Victorian-era novelist. Although perhaps better known for such works as "e;Great Expectations"e; or "e;A Christmas Carol"e;, Dickens first gained success with the 1836 serial publication of "e;The Pickwick Papers"e;, which turned him almost overnight into an international literary celebrity thanks to his humour, satire, and astute observations concerning society and character. This classic work is being republished now in a new edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author.
