Alex Zidock, Jr., has been a freelance outdoor writer/photographer/broadcaster for nearly 30 years. Currently he is the host of "Out in the Open," a weekly television outdoor talk show that airs in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Alex is a contributing editor for Boating World magazine and a regular contributor for Pennsylvania Angler and Boater magazine. He has published articles and photographs in major boating, hunting and fishing magazines. His work has also appeared in non-outdoor publications such as Popular Mechanics. Alex has owned more than a dozen boats, most of which he towed along the East Coast. He, his wife and two children have toured most of the United States in three different motor homes. Alex fishes from Canada to the Keys.
After spending 23 years at a suburban Pennsylvania newspaper, Alex and his wife JoAnne launched their own advertising and public relations company in 1982. He taught photojournalism part-time at a local community college and hosted a weekly outdoors radio show for several years. He and JoAnne published Eastern Boating newspaper for five years. They ran their 30-foot boat, Another Story, out of Barnegat (NJ) Inlet until they closed the advertising agency and moved permanently to their vacation home on Lake Wallenpaupack in the Pennsylvania Pocono Mountains in 1990. JoAnne sells real estate in the Poconos and helps with the television production where she appears as a frequent guest espousing the female perspective on the outdoors. They boat, fish and hunt together.
Alex is a past president of the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association and a long-time member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. He is also a past president and the former Executive Director of Boating Writers International, Inc.
