This study analyzes the representations of human subjectivity in a number of European films, from -Pandora's Box- to -The American Friend.- The various analyses incorporate the issues prominent in current post-structuralist discourse, psychoanalysis, existentialism, and to some degree, contemporary art and science. The study challenges the assumptions of -suture- theory, while discussing extra-textual relationships between films and culture."
