The Runic Maelstrom

Despite moving from San Francisco to Beijing seven years ago, thirteen-year-old Kamryn Hong never quite adjusted to her transformed lifestyle amidst the modern society of China. After the mysterious death of Kam's mom and a catastrophic shipwreck, Kam and her best friend, Rowen, flee to America for a divergent life filled with gods and magic. Their brief adventure numbs Kam's pain for a moment, but the tug on her heart to avenge her mom's death can no longer be ignored. She and Rowen must embark on a dangerous quest back to China, where they seek the secrets of one man before more of Kam's loved ones disappear.
