The Notional Mule

"The four children crowded around the shabby picture hanging on their grandparents' wall. The painting was an old one. There were spots and scratches on the face of the animal and even places where the paint was peeling off the canvas."

Mule was born in the Flint Hills of Kansas around 1860. He was the result of a cross between his Mammoth donkey father and a beautiful bay mare named Bonita. All mules have personalities of their own and Mule certainly created a name for himself as he grew from a baby to an adult outside of Kansas City, Kansas.

In this book, an old journal, a letter, and a battered painting bring the story of Mule to life.
