The Newest Americans

The first volume of The Newest Americans introduces the Afghan, Cambodian, Chinese, Colombian, Cuban, and Dominican immigrant populations in the United States. Students will learn about the decades of war that brought Afghans to America, and how they have dealt with their adopted country's war against terrorism in their native country. The long history of the Chinese in America is explored, including the period of their exclusion from immigrating. Also covered are the histories of Cambodians, Colombians, and Cubans who fled wars, guerrilla fighting, and Communist takeovers in their home countries, and how Dominicans have grown from one of the smallest groups of American immigrants to one of the largest.
