When it grew dark, a number of colored lamps were lighted

کله چې تیاره شوه، یو شمیر رنګارنګ څراغونه روښانه شول

the sailors and royal family danced merrily on the deck

ملایانو او شاهي کورنۍ په ډیک کې په خوښۍ سره نڅا کوله

The little mermaid could not help thinking of her birthday

کوچنۍ مرمۍ نشي کولی د هغې د کلیزې په فکر کې مرسته وکړي

the day that she rose out of the sea for the first time

هغه ورځ چې هغه د لومړي ځل لپاره له سمندر څخه راپورته شوه

similar joyful festivities were celebrated on that day

په همدې ورځ د خوښۍ جشنونه ولمانځل شول

she thought about the wonder and hope she felt that day

هغې د حیرانتیا او امید په اړه فکر وکړ چې هغه ورځ یې احساس کړه

with those pleasant memories, she too joined in the dance

د دې خوندورو یادونو سره، هغه هم په نڅا کې شامله شوه

on her paining feet, she poised herself in the air

د هغې په دردناکو پښو کې، هغې ځان په هوا کې ایښی و

the way a swallow poises itself when in pursued of prey

هغه طریقه چې د ښکار په تعقیب کې یو تیر ځان ځان ته رسوي

the sailors and the servants cheered her wonderingly

ملایانو او نوکرانو په حیرانتیا سره هغه خوشحاله کړه

She had never danced so gracefully before

هغې مخکې هیڅکله دومره په زړه پورې نڅا نه وه کړې
