Following his critically acclaimed first collection of essays, Cold Spell, retired educator Todd Nelson follows it up with a new collection of short essays rooted in his Maine experiences. Rather than cohering around a place, however, the essays cohere around the act of observing. Readers will know they are in Maine, but locations won't be more precise than that. This is a book about seeing, and a relationship with place, language, and narration. It is about looking or imagining what's behind appearances.
