System Modelling and Optimization

This book provides a review of system theory and optimization, and explores several areas, such as fuzzy sets and neural nets, where classical optimization topics intersect with computer science methodology. The major topics covered are automatic control; biomedical systems; discrete event systems; discrete-time systems; distributed parameter systems; engineering applications; fuzzy systems; game problems; immunology; information systems; multicriterial problems; nondifferential optimization; optimal control; optimization algorithms and methods; production systems; scheduling problems; and transportation systems. In addition, other areas are discussed in several survey papers, based on the invited presentations of leading specialists in their respective fields. The book contains the selected proceedings of the Seventeenth Conference on System Modelling and Optimization, organized by the International Federation for Information Processing and held in Prague, the Czech Republic, in July 1995.
