Street art

Street Art has become a natural part of today's urban landscape. In almost all big cities, you encouter several examples of Street Art when you walk down the streets.

Street Art emerged as graffiti in the American ghettos in the early 1970s and in the beginning it was a kind of territorial marking, a way of drawing attention to your presence in the neighbourhood. Over the years, Street Art has evolved and today street artists express themselves through a lot of different media like paste ups, stencils, stickers, posters, wall paintings, 3D art, yarn bombing, guerrilla gardening, video projections and flash mobs.

The exhibition is naturally not confined to the exhibition hall of Kunsthallen. Seferal walls, containers and objects in the neighborhood have been painted by some of the artists in the exhibition. So have the entrance space, the staircase and the walls leading to the exhibition hall.
