South Holland

Settled by Dutch pioneers in 1847, South Holland has known many names-De Laage Prairie, Holland Bridge, and Low Prairie. It even earned the title of "e;Onion Capital of the World"e; thanks to the early Dutch settlers who farmed the area's fertile soil, planting cabbages and onions. They also brought traditions and values that have remained a fundamental part of the community's life. South Holland is a visual history of this proud community, told through photographs from the late 1800s to the present day. In close to 200 images, including ones of youngsters gathered by Thorn Creek, hard-working farmers, and the town's many places of worship, this collection provides a fresh portrayal of an interesting and intriguing place.
