When Esther returns home from university, she finds her mother, the great fashion designer Daphne Sarcire, engaged to a man no one has ever heard of. The mysterious and unsettling Lord Godric Collard has taken over the family's fashion house, drawn all the curtains, and his unsettling, pale wards haunt the corridors.

One of Collard's wards is assigned to Esther as an apprentice - Benjamin is cold and reserved, but a strange connection starts forming between him and Esther.
