Robinson Crusoe

Daniel Defoe's classic novel details the experiences of a young man who ignores his father's advice and takes to the sea. A number of tragedies ensue, including Crusoe's being captured by Moorish sailors off the African coast. Finally, Crusoe is ship-wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of central America. The lone survivor, Crusoe despairs his enforced exile; however, while there he discovers a Bible amongst the ship's luggage and over the course of many years, comes to see God's blessing on his life. Defoe's most famous novel gives the reader time to reflect on why God allows tragedy to befall us, as well as suggesting reasons why people are discontent and the solution for this.
