Ritchie's War

A 19-year old South African lad has volunteered to serve in the First World War's East African campaign under General Smuts. But his dream of embarking on a great adventure quickly dissipates when he becomes engulfed in a nightmarish struggle to survive guerrilla-type tactics in a hostile environment where more soldiers succumbed to tropical diseases than war injuries.
An encounter in which he comes face-to-face with death brings to the surface suppressed childhood memories where unfolding events severed the strong emotional bond with his mother, who was condemned to death for the murder of a British officer. On his return from the war, he embarks on a life-threatening journey in search of answers to deep-seated issues, which have continued to haunt him.
