Die Encyclopedia of the Bible and Its Reception (EBR) gibt in umfassender Art und Weise den aktuellen Stand der Wissenschaft zu den Urspr ngen und zur Entwicklungsgeschichte der Bibel im Rahmen der unterschiedlichen Kanons im Juden- und Christentum wieder. Mehr als 4.500 Autor*innen aus ber 70 L ndern dokumentieren die Geschichte der Bibelrezeption; und zwar nicht nur in den christlichen Kirchen und der j dischen Diaspora, sondern auch im Islam, in weiteren religi sen Traditionen und in aktuellen religi sen Bewegungen, sowie in Literatur, Kunst, Musik und Film.

Mit diesem breitgef cherten Ansatz hat sich die EBR mit der Ver ffentlichung der ersten Eintr ge 2009 auf neues Terrain begeben. Seitdem veranschaulicht die EBR, dass biblische Texte ihren jeweils eigenen entstehungsgeschichtlichen Hintergrund und Kontext haben.

Au erdem zeigt sie, wie diese Schriften rezipiert und interpretiert wurden und welchen Einfluss sie auf eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher religi ser und theologischer Zusammenh nge sowie auf Kunst und Kultur aus bten.

Die breite Rezeption und das durchweg positive Echo aus der akademischen Gemeinschaft zeigt, wie die EBR die Erforschung der Bibel und ihrer Rezeption pr gt. 2010 wurde EBR mit dem CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title ausgezeichnet, EBR Online erhielt diesen bedeutenden Preis 2020 (CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title of 2020).
