Pastoral Letters (1986 - 2000)

This is a collection of the Pastoral Letters that Br. John Johnston, FSC, Superior General of the De La Salle Christian Brothers, sent annually to the Brothers around the world. They cover the period of 1986 to 2000, the two terms during which Br. John served as Superior General. Br. John Johnston's letters are refreshingly candid and honest. At the same time, they are learned, well-researched, personally challenging, broad in scope, and relentless in focus. He knew his audience well, loved them, loved the vocation of the Brothers, loved the Church, and sought ways to look to the future with hope and encouragement. The content provides succinct and rich reflections on the essential dimensions of what it means to be a Brother today, and on prayer, community life, synods, vocation ministry, the Lasallian charism, association, and world-wide Lasallian life.
