Sri Harmandir Sahib, also known as Sri Darbar Sahib and the Golden Temple, is the world's most sacred and most recognized Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship). From 1588 to 1601, its construction was overseen by the fifth Guru (enlightened teacher of the Sikhs), Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, in the holy city of Amritsar (which was founded by the fourth Guru, Sri Guru Ram Das Ji) in Punjab, India. Today, the Golden Temple is one of the most visited places on Earth, welcoming millions of people annually from all walks of life.
