Miss Ranskill Comes Home

Better known for her Worzel Gummidge books, Barbara's first and only adult novel was written partly as a homage to her husband Commander Bower who Died in the Second World War. It describes a middle-aged woman who goes on a cruise in 1939, is swept overboard and lives as a castaway on a desert island for three and a half years with only a ships carpenter, another castaway, there for companionship.
