1877--Rossburg, Pennsylvania--Golden Age of the Lumber Barons--Sawmill worker and Scottish immigrant Ian Douglas loses his sister and mother to an influenza epidemic and blames it on poverty. This sets him on a determined quest for wealth. Over the course of events, he falls in love with the daughter of a powerful lumber baron and dares to challenge the boundaries of a closed society.
