Medicinal plants in dentistry

Brazil is a country of great plant diversity and countless plants are used in the form of herbal medicines, nutraceuticals or foods. They can also be used as raw materials to obtain extracts, essential oils, among others. The study of natural compounds and extracts has been carried out with the aim of obtaining antimicrobial agents that enable the prevention of oral diseases, whether bacterial or fungal, with few undesirable side effects and easy access to the population. This material represents research carried out by the authors into the antimicrobial potential of medicinal plants on microorganisms in the oral environment.
