Al had to slow down because it was dark and the ship was filled with fiery smoke. He had to walk over bodies that were also blown apart laying on a bloodied deck. Al said he thought for a second and returned to his engine room. Later Al said that if he had taken another step forward, he would have fallen into the sea. Al believed it was the hand of God that turned him around.
