Legal Issues Surrounding Marijuana

The legal status of marijuana has been a topic of recurring interest in recent years. Marijuana was initially placed and today remains as a Schedule I controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). As a result, a person who grows, possesses, uses, sells, transports, or distributes marijuana, even if it is done in a way that is consistent with State law or authorized by a State license, is nonetheless in violation of the CSA and remains subject to Federal prosecution.
