International migration and the state agency

International migration towards Brazil has increased considerably in the last two decades, reaching an immigration stock of around two million economic immigrants, refugees, political asylees and stateless people. Brazil has ceased to be a country of emigration and has once again become part of the international migration agenda and routes after a century of historical immigration. New flows bring new demands in relation to the action and agency of the state, its institutions and its rulers. Thus, this guide book serves as a support for understanding the new migrations, their profiles and peculiarities, as well as the actions of the Brazilian state in relation to this issue, which is increasingly being highlighted and discussed in civil society, the press and academia.
