In the Darkness, a Match Was Lit

I was a young girl wanting nothing more than to be loved. From an early age, until I found recovery, my voice was silent, unless I was drunk and angry. I became violent. I became someone I hated, but also someone who realized that I had the gift of being a woman. I used that to empower myself. After 20-plus years of addiction, I wanted to change my life and do right by my children. The road to recovery was a winding one. I am still working on me and being the best that I can be.
