Frankenstein; Or, The Modern Prometheus

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, or, the Modern Prometheus, which was first published in 1818, is considered to be the foremost Gothic book of the romantic style and served as an inspiration for a number of later horror-themed works. After visiting the Frankenstein castle, where it was thought that two centuries before an alchemist had done experiments, Shelley was inspired to create the narrative, which is frequently regarded as the first science fiction story ever written.
