Focus On People and Migration

The Focus On series presents in-depth commentary reports examining different subjects and groups of people in the United Kingdom. Combining data from the 2001 Census of Population and other official sources, the reports provide an up-to-date and comprehensive analysis of their topic area. Each report is easy to access, using simple tables, charts and maps to illustrate topics and issues. Population and Migration covers the UK and its population, including the age structure of the population, fertility and mortality, analyses of where people live, movements within the United Kingdom and international migration. The demographic characteristics of overseas-born and special populations such as armed forces, prisoners and students are examined. Lastly, the report presents profiles for 10 major cities and towns in the UK and comparisons of UK demographic patterns with those of other European and North American countries.
